Sunday, 20 September 2009 - Started the day with a gourmet breakfast before hiking to Inspiration Point above Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park with dramatic views of the lake and mountain peaks, enjoyed wildflower and lakeside scenes along easy trails, reached Hidden Falls and admired its cascading waters framed by Teton rock faces, captured storm-framed peaks and wildflowers along the wooded path, went for a trail ride through wooded foothills then drove around the scenic Jackson Hole valley spotting wildlife including a bear near the roadside, and finished the evening with sunset light over the Tetons.

wyoming2009 — Today starts with a gourmet breakfast of Huckleberry pancakes then off on a hike to Inspiration Point on the west side of Jenny Lake.

This is the headwaters for Jenny Lake feed by the creek from String Lake.

It was a very easy path and a very nice hike.

wyoming2009 — In the wooded lakeside there were several wildflowers. Here is a dandelion on the trail.

wyoming2009 — The weather was threatening all morning but made for dramatic shots with the clouds swirling around the tops of the mountains.

wyoming2009 — One objective of the hike was Hidden Falls, which is a beautiful waterfall not far from the water taxi landing from the east side of the lake.

wyoming2009 — Dead trees against the blue sky. A fire had raged in part of the forest at the north end of Jenny Lake.

wyoming2009 — In the afternoon Cal and Virginia Ann went for another ride. Cal on Idaho, a very headstrong animal. This ride was one of the most advanced - two times across the small river connecting Leigh and String lakes and up the foothills of the Grand Tetons.

wyoming2009 — Virginia Ann in front of Cal as the trail ride traverses the foothills of the Grand Tetons. The colors were beautiful - we enjoyed the trail rides.

wyoming2009 — After the trail ride we went driving in the Jackson Hole valley.

The clouds continued to provide a great background to the Grand Tetons.

wyoming2009 — While in Jackson Hole we saw three wedding parties - including one wedding in progress at Schwabacher's Landing.

Here the bride has her best boots on. The groom arrived while we were leaving and was suitably dressed in fancy boots and hat.

wyoming2009 — We scoured the road between Moose Junction and Wilson - it is a popular place to see wildlife. The road looks like a 1950s era cruising movie. You drive at 5 miles an hour and look for animals.

Virginia Ann and Cal watched where other cars stopped and also slowed and stopped where others slowed and stopped.

We were rewarded with this sighting of a bear.

wyoming2009 — This bear was gathering berries about 50 feet up a hill from the road. There were probably 30 people outside their cars watching and taking pictures.

If the bear had moved toward the road at all, there would have been quite a panic.

wyoming2009 — The sunset this night was spectacular. We stopped to take photos on the road to Jenny Lake Lodge.
