Traveling in Southeast Asia


Monday, 27 February 2023 - Our last stop in Luang Prabang was Wat Khili where we visited an exhibition of photographs taken by monks over the years, explored the traditional Buddhist Archive of Photography with its historic collection of thousands of images, and enjoyed the unique temple architecture and spiritual atmosphere before concluding our Southeast Asia adventure.

Wat Khili was built in 1773 it is the same style as those found near the Plain of Jars, which makes Wat Khili unique amongst Luang Prabang temples.

Books written on bamboo tied together. The written language is different from the current written language, so there is an effort to photograph and translate the books.

One of the cabinets in the traditional library building housing a historic photo exhibition of Buddhist heritage, known as The Buddhist Archive of Photography. A unique collection of 35,000 historical photographs that were collected by several monk collectors and photographers over 120 years.
