Traveling in Southeast Asia

Thursday, 23 February 2023 - Drove to the Golden Triangle at the top of Thailand where Thailand, Laos, and Burma meet, observed the Mekong and Ruak rivers mixing, photographed a giant Buddha on the Thailand side, saw Chinese casinos on the Laos shore, toured a government hill tribe village with traditional weaving demonstrations and women wearing golden neck rings, and observed rubber tree sap collection while experiencing local culture and landscape.

The muddy water from the Ruak River (the boarder of Thailand/Burma) is mixing with the Mekong.

We drove to a government housing area for hill tribes. These tribes used to be in Burma and have been allowed to relocate in northern Thailand.

It is a bit odd - like a zoo - sort of unconformable. However, they were farmers and now only make money by fees to the village and selling woven wares.

The women of the Karen tribe use golden rings added one at a time each year to elongate their neck. They believe a woman is more attractive the longer the neck.
