Photographing Monument Valley

Monday, 15 October 2018 - Traveled from Phoenix to Kayenta, Arizona, arriving at the north end of the state. Photographed Agathla Peak (El Capitan) with its volcanic formations and striking desert landscape, used a nearby coral and the Owl Rock formation as foregrounds, captured a horse walking through the scene, learned that Agathla Peak is part of the Navajo Volcanic Field and approximately 25 million years old, and enjoyed sunset light on the formations while exploring the east side of the mountain and spotting a fun sign near a sheep ranch.

The group met in Phoenix and then drove to Kayenta - at the north end of Arizona.

Our first location was Agathla Peak (popularly called El Capitan) - a large rock shooting into the sky. There was a coral and a stand nearby - which offered great foreground.

A horse was nice enough to walk through the photo shoot

Agathla Peak is an eroded volcanic plug - basically the lava cooled in the center of the volcano. Agathia Peak is part of the Navajo Volcanic Field, in the southern Colorado Plateau. The ages of these formations are 25 million years old.

We then moved to the east side of the mountain to continue while the sun slowly lowered.

There is a fun sign near our location pointing to a sheep ranch.
