Abstract Art in Moab Utah

Monday, 12 April 2021 - Spent the morning photographing delicate arches and fins in Arches National Park including Double Arch and the Windows Section, captured unique rock patterns and sunrise colors, then hiked to Landscape Arch and explored Devils Garden, ending the day with photography along Potash Road and reflections in the Colorado River under late afternoon light.

A second attempt got me out of bed early to try for some star photography again. Last time I shot Queen Nefertiti Rock I did not create the photograph I wanted - star trails.

moab2021 — This is about 80 pictures, 1 every 30 seconds for 40 minutes of total time which causes the star trails.

moab2021 — A second camera recorded a photograph of the rock wall in Park Avenue opposite of Queen Nefertiti Rock.

Millions of stars.

moab2021 — After some coffee, I back headed out to Arches National Park. This time to Delicate Arch.

At the beginning of the trail is an old ranch and then a side trail to a rock with this petroglyph. I really like the hunt scene with the riders and deer.

moab2021 — A small arch on the way to Delicate Arch called Twisted Doughnut Arch. I took this from a ridge line on the north side of the ridge with Delicate Arch.

moab2021 — Delicate Arch - is a freestanding arch 52 feet high - amazing that the sandstone eroded in a way that created this rock.

Through the arch are the La Sal mountains.

moab2021 — Frustrated by the light and composition I thought I would hike to a ridge on the south side of the arch. It was quite a hike - a climb really. I was able to get a good vantage and shot this picture of

moab2021 — The next hike was the Windows Trailhead where there are several arches within a short hike.

This is North Window Arch - which was very crowded as it is the closest to the parking lot. A nice low angle cut them off the picture.

moab2021 — Turret Arch has a large arch and a tiny one - the turret comes from the high tower on the right.

I climbed up and through the arch to take the picture looking east - the sun was high in the west.

Headed that way next.

moab2021 — North Window Arch - which is right next to South Window Arch except a bit north.

It was nice on the Primitive Loop Trail with very few people.

moab2021 — The landscape near the various arches - the rocks weathered and unusual but no one pays them attention as the arches are taking all the attention.

moab2021 — I have already photographed Double Arch at night - this time the hike is to see the arches in the light. It is a short hike to the arches and fun as you walk right into the arches. So you see them from a distance until you are under the arches.

moab2021 — Double Arch up close - so beautiful. If you recall they were formed by potholes which finally wore through the ceiling of the rock.

It was so cool to see so many beautiful arches in a very short hike.

I had a great time in the Moab area - such beautiful area. I could not get all the pictures I wanted so I will return.
