Birthday Celebration in Eastern Europe

Saturday, 10 September 2016 - Arrived in Prague, walked through the plaza near our hotel for orientation and people-watching, took Bus 22 to explore the city including the Church of St. Ludmila and Liechtenstein Palace, crossed the Charles Bridge into the old part of town, admired the bronze statue of Emperor Charles IV, enjoyed views of the Royal Gardens and Prague Castle from the hotel and bridges, and had dinner aboard the Marina Ristorante riverboat with views of the Vltava River and St. Vitus Cathedral.

The plaza not far from our hotel where we walked through get to town. We had breakfasts off this plaza as well as Starbucks. A beautiful place to sit and people watch.

This was at the end of the line on Bus 22 we took to get oriented to the city. A beautiful church on an exceptionally warm day. The Church of St. Ludmila was started in 1888

The fall temperatures were in the 80s while we were there. Virginia Ann had to purchase short sleeved shirts as we were expecting cooler weather.

Beautiful old buildings with frescoes and paintings as if the beautifully adorned windows needed some help.

Clouds threatened rain but none came - the clouds created some dramatic light. This is the Liechtenstein Palace one of two palaces which used to be owned by the crown in Liechtenstein now used for local events.

We only had a few hours so we decided to cross the Charles Bridge into the old part of town.

As we finished the walk across the bridge we were in a little square with a bronze statue of Emperor Charles IV.

The statue was completed in 1848 on the 500th anniversary of Charles University and shows Emperor Charles boldly leaning on his sword while holding the deed to the University in his other hand.

The view from our hotel was into the Royal Gardens. The gardens begin at the palace which is just a gate away from the hotel and, along with the hotel, drops several stories.

We set off for dinner around sunset. As we walked this clock tower came into view. It is a building for the Czech Geological Service.

Dinner was at Marina Ristorante which is a riverboat docked on the Vltava River. The food was very good and the tables were along a wall that was all windows out to the river.
