Friday, 1 November 2024 - Very early start to catch sunrise at Convict Lake, photographing Laurel Mountain under the stars and meteor trails, enjoyed the colorful cottonwoods by the lake, then spent the afternoon driving around Bishop searching for pretty trees, observing horses and cows, and capturing the warm afternoon light on groves and landscapes.

Look closely, and you can see meteor trails in the sky over Laurel Mountain.

Convict Lake has spots where the depth is over 140 feet.

It received its name from settlers in the 1870s when a group of escaped convicts hid out near the lake. There were casualties in the ensuing shootout on both the posse and prisoner side.
