75th Anniversary of Normandy Invasion

Thursday, 20 June 2019 - A relaxing day wandering the picturesque town of Honfleur-strolling the old harbor, exploring down the channel and park areas, enjoying wildlife and gardens, and visiting Naturospace with its tropical plants and butterflies before soaking up more charming street scenes in the afternoon.

We went on a long walk down the Honfleur channel which supports a public area.

This was a small park with a pond and beautiful plants.

Next to the park is the Naturospace Honfleur - which is a biosphere with tropical plants and butterflies.

While not the largest butterfly house we have seen they had many varieties - and several exotic birds.

In 1853 , a first lighthouse called "Lighthouse Hospital" was built. It was lit in 1857 and operated until 1908, when it was extinguished and its lantern filed. It is now the property of the city of Honfleur.

The similarity with the name of Bay of Hunafloi in Iceland probably points to Honfleur being of Norse (Viking) origin.
