Tuesday, 25 March 2014 - On our last day in Dubai we walked through the Dubai Mall with its vast shops and towering Burj Khalifa views, explored the quirky Antique Museum packed with goods from the Middle East and Africa including perfume bottles, pashminas, and souvenirs, browsed camels and elephant figures, soaked up last views of the city, and then headed to the airport for our long flight home.
Not much time for running on our last day - Virgina Ann wanted to go back to the Dubai Mall and then see the
ski area in the Emirates Mall. Of course if you go to the Dubai Mall you see the Burj Khalifa stretching
up into the sky.
The Burj Khalifa only took 5 years to build - remarkable.
The design of Burj Khalifa is derived from patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture. As the tower
rises from the flat desert base, there are 27 terraces in a spiralling pattern, decreasing the cross section
of the tower as it reaches toward the sky and creating convenient outdoor spaces.
The next stop was the Antique Museum - which is not a museum despite its name. It is a huge
import store with goods from all over the world - most from the Middle East and Africa. You
could easily spend a day wandering the hallways packed with goods.

Near the entrance (which is a loading dock) is an elephant sculpture.
And then off to the airport for the 16 hour flight to Atlanta. We really enjoyed Dubai and hope to return
soon.
