Discovering Costa Rica


Wednesday, 24 February 2005 - Spent the final day of the trip in San José exploring the city's highlights including the massive National Monument commemorating the 1856 war against William Walker, views of Parque Nacional, and a tour of the beautiful National Theater with its frescoes and elegant interior before wrapping up the Costa Rica adventure and heading home.

This is the massive National Monument commemorating the war of 1856. The statue depicts the people of Central America defeating the US adventurer William Walker. Walker wanted to rule several Central American countries and invaded Costa Rica from Nicaragua.
