Family Cruise to Alaska

Monday, 12 June 2006 - A cool and foggy day at sea with limited visibility until the afternoon. Enjoyed reading guide books, catching up on email, and relaxing on deck. Finally the fog cleared, revealing beautiful mountains along the Inside Passage and an exciting whale sighting. Evenings included black tie dining and another stunning sunset.

The second day of the cruise was a cool and foggy day. Until the afternoon you could not see 100 yards past the ship.

Here dad gets comfortable with a good book. Actually I think it was a guide book as we needed to plan out the various places we wanted to see.

A small sailboat approaches the fog bank. We broke free for a time and then plunged back into the fog. A good time to use the ship's wifi to get email and catch up on work.

Finally the fog broke and everyone enjoyed a nice day on the decks.

Here two whales make an appearance. This was very exciting with everyone rushing to the side of the ship to catch a glimpse. This was actually one of the best sightings we would have on the cruise ship.

This is what all the sharp eyes look for, the whale blow. Once they take a few breaths they will head down - that is when the tail pops up.

Here is the photo opp. The whale tail. Everyone wanted to get a good shot of the tail as the whale dove. They would stay down for several minutes or not be spotted again as the ship moved past their location.

Cal and sister - Mary - enjoy time on the deck. The temperature for the trip was great somewhere around 70 maybe even 80. We did not need jackets on sunny days.

There was a constant stream of beautiful mountains as we glide by. The mountains are on each side of the ship as we are sailing up the inside passage.

Life on a cruise liner - we had several black tie nights in the dining room.

In the dining room Virginia Ann, Cal, and Mary dine in style. You can see the large windows allowing you to see the sights while you dine.
